And so the question arises of why Oudtshoorn for so long?.
Tony has decided that he would like to improve on his current piloting qualifications and some previous research had identified the flying instructors school at George as the place to be to get the desired instructors rating.
Between enquiring and finally getting to undertaking some classes the school expanded to Oudtshoorn and it was here that Tony was instructed to report.
Two weeks of class, with several lectures plus a couple of exams thrown in and Tony proved that he hadn’t lost his touch. He aced both exams at first try, and got excellent feedback on his lectures, as well as earning the respect of his much younger classmates. The age difference was brought home to him one evening when one of the youngsters asked Tony if he had known his dad in the airforce. It transpired that the name was not familiar but his grandfather was known to him -having been Tony’s instructor back in the day. !!
A great start. And certainly not the end as yet.
Undertaking this qualification part time means a return to Oudtshoorn in the near future.
