I had to bribe Tigger away from the tanks
Or we’d have been there through the night.
Moving on, we drove the Desert Road
And saw Mt Ruapehu tipped in white.
Onward ever onward we drove
’til we came upon the lake
Here the pumice lies scattered about
And is free for all to take
We stopped overnight in a camping ground
Alongside many others doing the same
A quiet dinner was had, and we tucked into bed
And in the dark, listened as it did rain
